Getting a rise out of Europe

According to a new European Commission, seizures of counterfeit drugs at the EU border rose 51 percent last year compared with 2006. Drugs seized last year included hypertension, osteoporosis and cholesterol treatments, and Viagra was the most popular counterfeited medicine.

As a pharmaceutic, with my own pharmacy in the Canary Islands, Spain, I am really surprised about this post, I do not think that counterfeits are so extended right here, but I can tell you that Spain has really low prices in drugs, and most prescriptions of hypertension, osteoporis and cholesterol are paied by the goverment. I guess that would ensure a low counterfiet level. Viagra is a diferente story….
Do you have more data about the conterfeit drugs in Europe? I am really interested about it. Thanks.
