About
Drug Safety Hub is a hosted discussion on the pharma industry in general and drug safety in particular. It was launched in April 2008.
Why this blog?
In 2006 3.7 billion prescriptions were written in the United States. Even at the seemingly low drug counterfeit rate of 1%, that translates into 37 million prescriptions being filled with fake, sub-potent, and even harmful drug products. There are other shocking statistics that we believe more people need to know about.
The DrugSafetyHub blog aims to foster an open industry exchange on the subject of diverted and counterfeit prescription drugs in the pharmaceutical supply chain and the safety threats they pose to patients and consumers.
In addition to shining a light on the problem, we seek to create an independent forum for solutions. DrugSafetyHub is a place where experts, advocates and consumers can share information and ideas – and outrage when necessary – in the service of fueling needed change.
DrugSafetyHub will also step back to examine new challenges the drug industry in general is facing and explore how the industry is evolving.
We invite the entire pharmaceutical supply chain community, including industry, regulators, legislators, medical professionals and organizations, to join the conversation at DrugSafetyHub. With the guidance and insights of a core group of expert contributors, we envision the blog exploring:
- The magnitude and root causes of safety issues in the drug supply chain
- The complexities of drug counterfeiting and diversion
- Regulatory compliance requirements and implications
- The changing pharmaceutical supply chain landscape
- New approaches and best practices to combat drug diversion and counterfeiting
- The overall trends and economics facing the pharmaceutical industry
